Your worst window.
The room's best feature.
We craft a truly one-of-one map or meaningful design, laser-plotted with precision and installed by hand in your home. No reprints. No editions. Only a private commission, transformed into enduring window art that belongs solely to you.
Designed for one window
No editions. No reprints. Every commission is plotted, cut, and installed for a single window in a single home. When it's installed, it's yours alone.
Plotted with laser precision
Every line cut in-house on premium adhesive film, accurate to the millimeter. Translucent enough to soften the light. Opaque enough to make the line read like ink on paper.
Installed, not shipped
Our certified application specialists come to you. They measure, prep, and apply — bubble-free, edge-perfect, guaranteed. The window is transformed; you do nothing.
Not window film. Window art.
Most decorative film is produced in quantity and applied by the homeowner. WindowMaps offers something quite different.
We create a true one-of-one artwork for your specific window. Every line is laser-plotted to within a fraction of a millimetre. Every piece is installed by a skilled artisan in your home, resulting in a flawless and permanent work.
This is not decoration acquired from a catalogue. This is a private commission — conceived for your light, your view, and your story.
The Netherlands.
Every commission begins as a hand-drawn study. Below: the country our studio knows by heart, drawn before any project — Noord-Holland in brass, the cities marked, the compass true.
Two windows, transformed.
A bathroom that became a love letter. A stairwell that became a homecoming. Begin where you’ve already been — or where you mean to go.

Every WindowMaps creation is made once, for one particular window — yours. The process unfolds with care and collaboration. Five weeks, start to finished.

“A city, well-drawn, becomes a place you can return to from anywhere.”— The Studio
In the words of those who live with the work.
Selected notes from clients, shared with their permission. Names abbreviated; specifics softened where requested.
The transom we hated for fifteen years is now the first thing guests notice. They ask about the lines — we tell them the canal we honeymooned on. It has become a small ritual.
The installer was here a little under two hours, left no mess, and the seam where the film meets the frame is invisible. The map itself reads like an etching. We could not be happier.
I supplied a vector of my grandmother’s village and the studio adapted it beautifully to a tall stairwell window. The light comes through the rivers like coloured glass. Worth every cent.
The questions we’re asked most.
Short answers below. If something here doesn’t cover it, the longer answer is one email away — we respond personally within one business day.
What does a commission actually cost?
Most commissions fall into one of three brackets. Standard windows — bathroom transoms, side-yard panes, small accent glass — begin at €1,100 (roughly $1,200). Larger or more detailed works — picture windows, stairwells, ornate cartography — range from €3,200 to €5,500. Architectural-scale or multi-pane installations are quoted on commission.
The number we quote is the number you pay. Design, in-house plotting, premium film, professional installation, and our three-year application warranty are all included. There are no shipping costs, no installation surcharges, no “rush fees.”
How long does a commission take from first email to installed window?
Approximately five weeks. The first week is conversation — we learn the window, the room, the place you want to honour. Weeks two and three are design and revision. Week four is laser plotting. Week five is installation. We can occasionally move faster for time-sensitive projects; we’ll be honest with you about what’s possible.
What if I’m not in one of your eight starting cities?
The eight cities on The Work are simply starting points — places our studio knows well enough to begin a draft from memory. Your Window takes any location on earth. We’ve mapped neighbourhoods, single coastlines, family villages, the route of a hike. If you can name it, we can plot it.
Can I supply my own artwork?
Yes — we work readily from a supplied EPS, SVG, AI, or PDF vector file. If you have only a sketch or a reference image, our in-house art team can build the vector for you. Either way, the plot-ready master file is reviewed with you before we cut.
How private is the work? Will my window appear on your website?
We reserve the right to display finished installations in our portfolio and Studio Letter, but only with no identifying details (no address, no surname, no recognisable interior). If you prefer your commission remain entirely unseen, tick the “true one-of-one” box on the inquiry form and we’ll honour that without exception.
What if the film fails — bubbles, peels, lifts at an edge?
Every installation performed by one of our certified specialists is warranted for three years against bubbling, lifting, peeling, or edge failure. If any of these occur within that period, we return and remediate at no cost. The warranty applies only to installations performed by our network — we strongly discourage DIY application, as the laser-cut film is unforgiving of error.
Is the film reversible? Can it be removed later?
Yes. Our adhesive film can be cleanly removed by a professional installer should you ever wish to. The underlying glass is not etched, sandblasted, or altered in any way — the cartography lives on the surface, not in it. Removal is offered at cost; on request, we can also archive your master file in case you wish to re-install in a future home.
Do you work with interior designers and architects?
Frequently. Trade inquiries follow the same process but with terms attuned to project timelines and trade discounting. Mention “trade or interior-designer inquiry” on the form and a member of our studio will reply with the relevant materials and pricing structure.
